How It Started

When I was a professional athlete in the NRL I sought the expertise of a counsellor, despite me thinking I would not need it being ‘so big and so strong’. On the contrary, they taught me how to take ownership of my own wellbeing and how a more holistic and proactive approach would support my success. The following year I went on to debut for the Maroons and Australia and it was no coincidence that having invested that time into my mental health and mindset, I was able to reach the professional and personal achievements I had worked so physically hard for.

After representing Australia, Queensland and three phenomenal NRL clubs over sixteen years, I transferred to the administration side of Rugby League and was honoured to be front and centre in developing and presenting its hero community mental health & wellbeing program, State of Mind. For a few years I met with community groups all over the country as I witnessed the impact of how inspiring, relatable stories and general empathy could transform a person and a place.

Taking those learnings, substantial mental health training, consistent consumer demand and the clinical, psychology-base of global healthcare company, the Wellbeing Code business was born.

At Wellbeing Code, we work to normalise conversations around mental health and re-frame it to treat it as a skill set that we can train, just like we train our physical health in order to feel and perform our best. There’s a self-care element and also performance – the sweet spot that we strive for as the optimal place for our mental health and wellbeing.

How we’re making a difference

We appreciate that wellbeing ties into many aspects of corporate life. Motivation to come to work, perform your job safely and successfully, work in a team, lead, and represent the brand externally. Our programs, mentoring and app will assist on all of these fronts. It’s all developed in-house by our psychologists and is evidence-based. A big part of it is having the content from our current and former athlete ambassadors, who layer in their own personal stories and guidance for enhanced engagement. We also have a complementary EAP product that is an industry-leader and boasts high engagement rates and strong employee advocacy.

Wellbeing Code has been created out of human’s needs: the wellbeing we need in order to perform; the stories that resonate to inspire; the mindset mentoring to expose what we’re capable of.
